Small Reconditioned barrels

Our Master Cooper, Yann Guiguen, builds small barrels using reconditioned wood from older barrels. The process involves shaving an older barrel - removing about 1/4 inch of wine saturated wood from the interior - and then disassembling the barrel. The individual staves are then shortened and recoopered into smaller barrels, casks and ovals.

Small reconditioned barrels are ideal for home winemakers or those making smaller quantities of wine. Reconditioned oak is "less agressive" than new oak, allowing the wine to mature in the barrel for a longer time.
